Connecting the Digital Dots: Literacy of the 21st Century
This article argues to convince how there is a gap between generations when it comes to digital literacy. The authors, Barbara R. Jones-Kavalier and Suzanne L. Flannigan, write how adults who are incompetent in the use of digital literacy need to adapt to the changes that are occurring with it. This especially goes for teachers, who need to incorporate technology into their lesson plans. This would allow students to remain in their domains of using technology, while still learning new material in class.
The authors stress how times are changing and adults need to adapt with the new use of digital literacy in everyday life. It seems that the authors know digital literacy very well and are possibly parents, since using technology as an educational tool is a major part of their article. Their purpose is to show that it is better to be competent in using and understanding digital literacy, than to be clueless and considered obsolete. The article is directed at teachers and anyone who doesn’t understand digital literacy to influence them into learning it and incorporating it into the classrooms.
